Four legendary reefs

The Straits of Tiran run between the Sinai Peninsula and Tiran Island — a gateway between the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba. Strong currents and nutrient-rich, crystal-clear water feed four premier reefs: Jackson, Woodhouse, Thomas and Gordon — with steep walls, coral gardens, dramatic drop-offs and big pelagic action.

The dive sites

Jackson Reef

5–40 m
Wall · Drift · Coral garden · Big fish

The northernmost reef in the Straits, famous for vibrant coral walls and big-fish action. The northern wall drops steeply into the blue and strong currents make it a classic drift, while the sheltered southern side is gentler. The wreck of the Lara sits on the northern plateau. Best for experienced divers.

Woodhouse Reef

5–40+ m
Wall · Drift · Canyon

The longest of the four, running north–south — known for dramatic wall dives down a steep, soft-coral-covered wall, a narrow canyon at the northern tip, and caves, ledges and overhangs through the middle. An excellent drift when the current runs from north to south.

Thomas Reef

10–60+ m
Wall · Drift · Canyon · Coral garden

A compact, circular reef with some of the most beautiful wall diving in the region — sheer walls smothered in soft corals and a deep canyon with arches and overhangs around 35–40 m. Spectacular light and colour for photographers. Best for advanced divers.

Gordon Reef

5–30 m
Sloping reef · Plateau · Wreck · Drift

The southernmost Tiran reef, recognised by the wreck of the Loullia stranded on its northern edge. A shallow sandy plateau with big coral heads and pinnacles, plus sheltered moorings — popular for training and relaxed exploration. Suitable for all levels.
